She was taught painting by professors Beta Vukanović, Ljuba Ivanović and Ivan Radović. Ljubica Sokić worked and exhibited in Paris in the years from 1936 to 1939. After returning from Paris, she exhibited her works independently for the first time in 1939 in the Belgrade pavilion of Cvijeta Zuzorić.After returning from Paris, he exhibited his works independently for the first time in Belgrade in 1939. She was one of the founders of the group Ten in 1940. In the period between 1948 and 1972, she worked as a full professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade.

She was elected a corresponding member of SANU in 1968, and a regular member in 1978. She was one of the creators of the House of Legacies, and she left her legacy to this institution and the city of Belgrade, which consists of 27 representative works created between 1965 and 1985. She exhibited at numerous solo and group exhibitions in the country and abroad. She received a large number of awards, among which are: Award for painting at the first October Salon in 1960, Golden Palette of ULUS in 1962, Seven of July Award in 1972, October Award of the City of Belgrade in 1978, Vuk Award in 1993, she was awarded the Politika Award from the Vladislav Ribnikar Fund for a retrospective exhibition at the SANU Gallery in 1996.

Her painting is described as intimate. At first, she painted still lifes, landscapes, figures and portraits. Later, she tended towards simplification of forms, geometrization and moderate abstraction. She died on January 8, 2009 in Belgrade and was buried on January 13 at the New Cemetery in Belgrade.
