The painter Slobodan Radosavljević graduated from the High School of Art and then educated himself.
That part of the biography of this artist is crucial for understanding his creativity.
He is educated in the real, old fashioned way, discarded today, learning from the old masters whom he studies in European museums.
That process is open-ended and can last a lifetime, unlike academic schooling.
This young artist could not have learned anything about the style and painting technique of the ancients at any European art academy, moreover, there he would have been greeted with hostility and his work considered backward.
Professor and academician Milo Milunović and academician Ljuba Popović applied the method of learning in large museums from our great painters.
This young creator has the additional problem that he is already a formed painter, with his poetics, his studies only serve to strengthen his system.
He wants to reflect on the most difficult terrain, in easel figurative oil painting, to enter the space already filled by extraordinary and genius painters before him.
It is not only great courage but the core of his artistic world, an effort to restore painting according to all its classical laws.
Radosavljević makes a big turn to return to the painting, despite the current of time
Instead of various forms of new abstraction, new artistic practice, photography, video, performance, installation, assemblage, digital and virtual reality, the young master turned to Jacques-Louis David, Jean-Dominique Ingres, Adolphe William Boujereau, Vlaho Bukovac and other greats of neoclassicism, symbolism and academic realism.
Radosavljević is first and foremost a realist, and realism is one of the two main stylistic formations of Serbian painting.
Slobodan Radosavljević is a member of the least represented form of realism, that of the academic type, following the example of the greats of the previous century.
It is about an elegant form of that art, which combines many elements of other directions of realism.
In the painting of this young artist, however, there are distinct touches of symbolism, more precisely, he is also a representative of neo-symbolism, thus entering the other great area of Serbian painting, into the irrational and fantastic.
On the other hand, we can look for justification for this kind of art not in the traditional sphere, but in the most avant-garde, in the ideas of the thinkers of the contemporary art scene in the world.
Finally, let’s return to the work of this painter.
He is interested in what has been banished from current art – classical beauty and sensual painting.
He introduces fine modelling, chiaroscuro, artistic processing of incarnates, hair, cloth, materialization as a principle of painting within the old theme of the nude, portrait, landscape and the human figure in the landscape.
In this sense, he nurtures the atmosphere in the picture, the mood of dusk, silence, often solving the picture in tense, dramatic contrasts.
He paints young, beautiful and noble people, ultimately there is only one aspiration – towards spirituality.
He showed interest in drawing and painting from early childhood.
He graduated from the High School of Art in Leskovac, Department of Graphics, Design and Propaganda Technician.
He is a participant in several art colonies in Paris with numerous, world-famous painters.
