Miljan Vasiljević

He was born in 1972 in Tuzla. He started painting professionally and actively exhibited in Belgrade in 1995. He has been a member of the fine artists “Esanf” since 1997. He paints with oil on canvas, using traditional materials and painting methods. He exhibited and worked in Canada between 1998 and 2002. He lives and works in Novi Sad since 2002.
According to the words of art historian and art critic Dejan Đorić, in Miljan Vasiljević’s painting ideally facing the ground, atmosphere, topic, Balkan climate, three related thematic units can be observed: landscapes and vedutes, classic still lifes gallery format dominated by our fruits and vegetables climates and conceptually resolved camera still lifes
occurrences. Analyzing the peculiarities of this whole and harmonious
of the finished work, we can see wheat and flower fields, the rolling sea
plains, birch forests, farms and details of old, baroque cities.
In these works, genius loci, poetics of nature and
the romantic spirit of antiquity, the trace of a time of non-violent decay.
The painter moves away from the scene by focusing some detail or
observes the landscape from a special perspective. Art always is
distance and awareness of it.
Some of the natural dead are seen from the lower angle camera format. They emphasize today’s forgotten aesthetic
a moment of loveliness, small in small, and vice versa, monumental in small, acting according to all the laws of magical realism, realism
seduction of the eye and trompe l’oeil illusionism. In this opus
materialization and skillfully placed compositions, are in function
the awakening of incomparably deeper contents and artistic and aesthetic ones values. Using the blow-up technique of enlarging the scene, close
photography and film, skillfully painting central compositions,
simple settings, balanced and symmetrical plans, light
Vasiljević elevates his dead natures and shadows, with lanterns as accents
to a higher value level. His painting is poetic
realized with sensuality and the illusion of the possibility of touching the painted (optics and haptics). There are also elements of complex art themes what is a picture within a picture or a palimpsest as a detail or background in a picture.
Life is celebrated in these pictures with moderation, restraint,
dignified, and according to the old mystical formula, God is found in
details. Letter, text, palimpsest instead of wall, letter as
the masonry, the trace of time, the background are events for appearance only one apple or quince. Fruit means what is in everyone’s mind
of man: health, joy, beauty, love, day and giving. An artist
has rediscovered something precious for us and for himself: the image as
a letter, a memory, a spiritual journey, and a painted scene as confession, intimacy and human presence. That’s how it is with the least possible
means, but quite differently from modernist reductionism,
painting returned to the content and domain of the personal. And it can only be seen from there the meaning of art. Exhibitions:
