Milan Stojkov was born in Sombor, in a well-known painting family. In a creative environment, it was logical for the youngest member of the family to follow the path of art. He showed his talent in two fields – in architecture and painting. After successful youthful painting
beginnings and his first solo exhibition (1972), he turned to architectural studies and then professional work in architecture. Nevertheless, Milan generously applied his artistic sensibility when designing, so that his architectural objects exude a painter’s sense of harmony and composition, never alienated from their surroundings. Milan Stojkov also had several independent exhibitions of his architectural works, for that
opportunity shaped into an artistic form, and he also participated in several joint ones
architectural exhibitions. Although he was primarily dedicated to his profession, he still engaged in painting, in which he was interested in the almost forgotten original technique of icon painting on glass, which had an almost three-century-old tradition in Sombor. Milan Stojkov devoted himself more intensively to art and created an opus of paintings, which was presented for the first time in the White Palace in Belgrade, which was followed by exhibitions in the National Museum in Kruševac, in the Embassy of Serbia in Budapest, in the National Museum in Modra (Slovakia), in the National
library in Bratislava and in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in Belgrade. This opys represented a new approach to portrait painting of historical figures, whose characters are inextricably linked to their living space (endowments, palaces, cities or regions) in Milan Stojkov’s work.
Milan Stojkov is a traveler, but also a tour guide.
